Collecting or Commissioning a Work

All paintings on this site are available for sale, unless they're labeled as belonging to a private collector. For paintings that are listed as being shown in a gallery, contact the gallery with any questions or for purchase information. For all others, contact me for prices or to view a painting you may be considering buying.

My blog, "Baxteriology" will keep you abreast of my latest work, as well as projects and paintings I am currently working on.

Due to limitations in image reproduction, the image online may appear slightly different than the original painting (the original will usually be richer in color). I encourage collectors to view the original before buying, but will also accommodate returns if they are made within two weeks of a purchase.

I am also available for commissions at your request.

Why commission a work of art?

You've reached a significant stage of life...
achieved an important accomplishment...
experienced a major event in your life.

Commemorate the moment with more than a photograph.
Recognize a person, a place or even a pet
with an original work of fine art.

Warmer, and more personal than a photograph, a painting is a lasting memento to that special memory. Whether casual or formal, it will be something that will grow in value, and that you'll want to hand down from generation to generation.

In my work I strive for a depth of vision that transcends the literal. Something that gets to the heart and soul of the subject I've chosen to paint. I use composition, value, color and selective focus to create compelling images of life as I experience it.

I prefer to paint subjects in a natural environment, where they are relaxed and their true personality emerges. I want the painting to be seen not just as a record of a person, place or event, but as a work of art in it's own right, where you "just happen to know the subject." It is more than a photograph. It is a record of the essence of the subject.

A good portrait requires the cooperation and collaboration of the patron, the sitter and the artist working together–it's truly a group effort. We'll work together to find the best setting, pose, and presentation for the subject at hand. I work from a combination of live sittings and photographs (live sittings are always preferred). Where possible, I like to work from my own photographs, which enables me to pose the subject in a way that will best capture them, and to compose the painting in the best possible manner.

Contact me about an estimate for your project. We'll arrange a time to meet and discuss the commission, and schedule a photo session and sittings as appropriate.
