Artist Biography

Self PortraitTodd Baxter Dawson is a realist painter of figures and landscapes, influenced by the American Impressionists, Whistler, Sargent and the contemporary master, Richard Schmid. His work has been exhibited in group shows in the Washington DC metro area as well as plein air painting events throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. He is the recipient of numerous awards, and his work is in many private collections.

An engaging communicator, Mr. Dawson has written and spoken on how to critique art, and on the use and importance of the Internet as a vehicle for artists. As a graphic designer he has designed web sites and print materials for artists and arts organizations, and has maintained web sites for artists and arts organizations. He has served as Juror for a number of exhibitions, including the prestigious 73rd International Exhibition of Fine Art in Miniature, held at Strathmore Hall in Bethesda Maryland, sponsored by The Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers Society of Washington, DC. He was the subject of a feature article in Washington Woman's State of the Art column, and has been affiliated with the Maryland Society of Portrait Painters, The Portrait Society of America and the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association.

Mr. Dawson was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1954, and earned a BFA from the Philadelphia College of Art (now University of the Arts) following foundational studies at the Cleveland Institute of Art.

He is represented by the MT Burton Gallery, Long Beach Island, Surf City, NJ; and Bishop’s Stock Fine Art Fine Craft in Snow Hill, MD, and currently works out of his studio in Germantown, MD.
